Religious Award Program

General Information

Many different versions are available for different religious faiths.  Any cub scout is eligible to complete both programs during his years in scouting.  However, each program must be fulfilled within their appropriate grade levels.  Both programs are listed in the cub scout handbooks and there are.  Regardless of the version, it takes most scouts approximately 6-12 weeks to complete.

The manuals for both programs in the various faiths can be ordered by calling 1-800- 933-PRAY.  Each costs approximately $3.50.  Some manuals are also available at the Cub Scout store (770-988-9912).  The scout store and the 1-800-933-pray number will also refer you to specific religious listings.

Awards for scouts in Pack 449 who complete these programs are given at the Blue and Gold Banquet in early February.  Due to the challenging nature of this program, successful scouts are awarded both a patch and a medal.  In addition, these are the only awards that cub scouts can take with them when they graduate to boy scouts. Also, any parent leader who helps their son complete this award is entitled to wear an Adult Religious Knot on their uniform.

Scouts who complete their programs will need to have their work books signed off by their religious leader.  In order to receive an award at the Blue and Gold Banquet, it is necessary to complete the course and submit the proof of completion paperwork to Lee Fincher by December 31st, 2009.

TBD for the Catholic faith
Lee Fincher for Protestant denominations
Carl Alper for the Jewish faith

As part of the cub scout experience, there are two programs available specifically for scouts to learn more about their religious faith and its importance in their lives.  These programs involved considerably more work than the typical achievement requirements.  However, the rewards (both tangible and spiritual) are commensurate with the effort involved. These programs are offered through the cub scouts and boys scouts, however, they are created by P.R.A.Y.

We have a class starting at Mount Pisgah for the "God and Family" program for 4th and 5th graders. The program will begin in mid October and wrap up in early January. There will be six meetings held at Mt. Pisgah. If interested, contact Don Pomeroy at cdpomeroy(at)comcast.net.

Our Council has a few other programs set up with volunteers helping to coordinate the program. Please visit the the Milton District website for additional information.

God and Me: Designed for Tigers, Wolves and Bears (Grades 1-3)

This program is conducted by a parent, mentor or religious leader.  It follows the organization in the God and Me workbook, which must be purchased separately.  This program is most commonly performed as a family.  However, it can also be done in a group so long as parents, mentor(s) or a religious leader is overseeing the group.

God and Family: Designed for Webelos (Grades 4-5)

This program is usually conducted in a group by an experienced mentor or a religious leader of your faith. It follows the organization in the God and Family workbook, which must be purchased separately. It is not necessary to have previously completed the God and Me program to participate in God and Family. If you want to organize or participate in a group, please contact the liaisons below or Lee Fincher to become a liaison for your religion.

Liaisons:

Our pack is seeking liaisons for various faiths.   If you are interested in being a liaison, please contact Lee Fincher.  A liaison assists with questions regarding the program in their faith.

Currently contact liaisons include (Please check the contacts page for contact info):
Dave Pendery for the Catholic faith
Lee Fincher for Protestant denominations
Carl Alper for the Jewish faith
